As a company, we had difficulties finding expats for assignments in Europe and happened to play around with different approaches to learn what people kept from transferring to another country. We turned to expat coaching for a solution. Expat coaching helped assignees and their families to identify their concerns and expectations. You know, at first I thought it would be just a matter of time. But my family kept being unhappy after we moved abroad, and I lost focus on my work tasks after a while. Between family and company, I worked myself into the ground and almost cancelled my assignment. Although I always thought I would have a lock on everything, I tried expat coaching, and actually, it removed the scales from my eyes. We extended coaching to the family and were able to define and accomplish our goals. |

It never came to my mind how different life in another country could be. The most challenging for me was to find my place and space in a new community, in a new society, and in the family. I used to work full-time, but with my husband's expat assignment I stopped working in order to make it easier for the family to adjust to our new life. I missed my friends, my work, and the role I was used to. Without expat coaching, I would never have gotten an idea how to spend MY time wisely. |
